In April 2018, The Open Group announced the release of long-awaited TOGAF Standard, Version 9.2 providing improved guidance, fixing errors, refining the document structure and removing obsolete content.
Major Changes In The TOGAF Standard, Version 9.2
Redesigned and Restructured Publication
The standard has been redesigned and restructured into a smaller publication that includes separate guides. The structure of the TOGAF standard is now treated as an “eco-system” that includes the TOGAF Body of Knowledge and links to additional guides.
Security Architecture Is Enhanced
The Security Architecture is enhanced and includes the modified recommended security adaptations to the ADM. It is supported by a guide in the TOGAF Library providing detailed guidance on how to integrate risk and security into a TOGAF Enterprise Architecture.
Updated Definitions And Key Terms
Definitions and key terms have been modified for clarity and simplification. With alignment to the new content, few new definitions are added and few definitions are deleted.
Enhancements to Business Architecture
The core of the TOGAF standard remains the same, with enhancements to Business Architecture and the Content Metamodel. There is an additional focus on digital trends and business transformation beyond IT and updated references to the ISO/IEC/IEEE 42010: 2011 standard. The Business Architecture content is supplemented with titles in the TOGAF Library, including guides on Business Capabilities and Value Streams.
ADM: Additional Detailed Information
The TOGAF standard, Version 9.2, includes additional detailed information for supporting the execution of the Architecture Development Method (ADM).

Requirements for TOGAF Affiliates
Affiliates who want to conduct training based on TOGAF Standard, Version 9.2 have to fulfill the following two requirements – as specified by The Open Group:
- Sign an updated commercial license provided by The Open Group.
- Have their trainers earn the TOGAF Essentials 2018 Credential.
How To Obtain the TOGAF Essentials 2018 Credential
To demonstrate the up-to-date knowledge and to be eligible to conduct a training based on the latest version of the standard, a trainer is required to earn the TOGAF Essentials 2018 Credential.
- Attend a training on TOGAF Essentials 2018 from an Accredited Training Provider
- The training provider submits the trainer’s details to The Open Group
- The trainer receives an invitation from The Open Group to take the TOGAF Essentials 2018 Practice Assessment.
This is an online assessment with 20 multiple-choice questions that need to be attempted in 30 minutes. The trainer needs to score 75 percent to pass to the Practice Assessment; but if the trainer fails, the assessment can be retaken any number of times. - Once the trainer successfully passes the Practice Assessment, the trainer receive an invitation to take the TOGAF Essentials 2018 Assessment.
Again the trainer has 30 minutes to answer 20 questions of which 75 percent needs to be answered correctly. If the trainer fails to score the passing score, two retakes exams are allowed. If the trainer successfully scores the passing percentage, the trainer receives an invitation to accept the TOGAF Essentials 2018 Credential.
