Stand-Alone or Work in Concert? Understanding the AXELOS PPM Portfolio

PRINCE2® is considered to be the de facto standard for project management, and is offered by many training providers around the world. In addition to PRINCE2, there are a number of frameworks in project, program and portfolio management in the AXELOS portfolio. These include MSP® for program management, MoP® for portfolio management, M_o_R® for management of risk, MOV® for management of value, and P3O® for portfolio, program and project management. See the graphic presentation below provided by AXELOS.

The PPM Portfolio at AXELOS has been receiving increasing interest in the market during 2014. Part of the excitement comes from the fact that since January of this year, nine Exam Institutes of AXELOS have been carrying this portfolio. And there most certainly is a strong need in the market for IT professionals to be trained in managing projects, portfolios and risks.

I sat down with Mike Acaster, PPM Portfolio Manager at AXELOS recently. Mike explained the frameworks within the portfolio, and whether they are stand-alone or meant to work together. As training providers, you will also find it worthwhile to take a deep dive into this information.
